Very Creative

This is a very good concept, and some aspects of it particularly well executed. Making the player actually use objects was a very nice touch, as was giving them points for seeking out information bubbles (heh, i'm reviewing this in the context of the point of the contest by the way). However, the game was held back in several respects. It was far too short really (unless i missed something), the actual platform engine wasn't very solid, and i know it seems cruel to complain about something that it would only take a small tweak to fix, but the slow-responding jumping really bugged me =/

If i were you, i'd take the days you have left and work on those three things. I imagine you have enough time to improve all of them at least a little bit... and then when you're done you could just update the file here. It wont benefit you on newgrounds, but it might win you some money in the contest =]

thanks alot man this was a really valuable review. this engine i must admit has given me quite a bunch of problems, ill continue tweeking it. Thanks a ton for you input

Woah

I'm genuinely amazed. You managed to stick to the bare bone gameplay mechanics of a platformer, and yet messed with the concept more than any other platformer i've ever played. I was impressed when the screen first rotated & gravity changed, but i assumed it was probably just a neat little trick that would be used infrequently and was probably painstakingly scripted each time... well yeah, i was just a bit wrong.

Later on in the game i honestly had no idea what was going on, but in a GOOD, liberating way. Despite occasionally completely losing track of where i was, the levels were still designed so well that still i always blundered into the exit without having to backtrack.

The 'boss battles', if you can even call them that, were also ingenius. Completely random and not really explained, but presented in such a way that you knew what to do anyway. I also loved how the game got progressively darker as it when on, and i'm always a sucker for psychiatric issues, so the highly depressing ending only made me smile =]

As per usual, i spent most of the time playing trying to work out how the engine probably worked, and i eventually came up with the idea that maybe crossing certain tiles on a grid triggers everything to flip around... that's the only way i can think of doing it that wouldn't make designing each level obscenely frustrating, and i'm still not convinced that that's it x.x

The only criticism i would have of this game is probably the reason for its brutally unfair score... it starts a little bit slow. The true complexity of the game doesn't really show itself until after the first few levels, and the only reason i kept on playing myself was because i gave it the benefit of the doubt out of boredom. My guess is that a lot of people are just closing the window after the first couple of levels, which is a huge shame =/

I would personally place this somewhere in the top 50, but hey, maybe that's just me =]

Thank you for your lengthy review :)
I don't want to give away too much on how the gravity shifting works, but yes, it is a tile based engine! ;)

This game makes me happy =D

So many of the puzzles in this game make me think back to the good old days when i was entirely obsessed with Golden Sun... Out of curiosity, did you take any inspiration from Golden Sun, or was that just coincidental?

Either way, this is a fantastic game. The effort really shows, and the puzzle design is brilliant. Fully deservant of the 5 i gave it, and i personally think this deserves a solid place in the top 50, for being the pinnacle of this genre in flash. Sadly, that will never happen, as a lot of people just suck to bad to have any fun, but it's still nice to hear, right?

hmmm never heard of Golden Sun... maybe I'm missing something.... yeah... damn about the score oh well... but thanks for the nice comments : - )

Very Well Put-Together

This is really fantastic =]

Very clean, looks great, impressive programming...

I would have given it a 10, but it froze. Probably some tiny little easily fixed bug somewhere that you didn't pick up because of limited time... but still. Again though, i'm really impressed with the programming here, does the genre justice =]

BoMToons responds:

Thanks, I put a lot of time into it, but it was rushed a bit to meet the pico day deadline. Come back and check it out now, I cleaned up a lot of the bugs.
